Rent Increment - Problems with Owner

Hi mates,

i have a problem here.

I have been staying in the current home since last 2 years with my family. My owner didn't increase the rent last year. I was in a impression that that rent i am paying is reasonable for this house.

Suddenly now he comes and says
1) 10% is the rate of increase in the rent. Unfortunately , i didnt have any number on rate of increase in my Rental aggrement.
2) asks to pay increased amount for last 12 months.

What should i do now?

Hi, ideally it should have been in the agreement. Im my agreement it's 5% and I pay 5% more every year. in fact, the house owner in my case is a nice gentleman.

Sorry, can't help. But you shouldnt pay for past year. Discuss about paying from now onwards only.
