Please advise for shopping and paying guest in Bangalore

Hi, I am from Chennai, I am planning to come to Bangalore for purchase dresses like churidhars, tops, kurtis, north indian attires, etc...But I am quiet new to Bangalore, some of my friends suggested me that Bangalore is cheaper and best for attire shopping than Chennai. I want to know the places which is useful for cheap purchase like chennai T.Nagar / purasaiwalkam and probably I may come with my mom, so it would be better to stay as a paying guest .but we don't know where to stay safely.please suggest me if you know anything ...thanks.
